     George Lewis Sargent was born on 26 July 1862, in New Britain, CT. He was usually called Lewis.1 He graduated from Yale University in New Haven, CT, in 1881 and received a degree from the Sheffield School. In 1883 he started working at Sargent & Co . He was treasurer for 30 years from 1887, vice-president 10 years and then president for 1 year. Afterwards he was a Director for 12 years until 1940.1 He married Alice Bessie Forbes, daughter of Charles Forbes and Mary Archer Alford, on Wednesday, 28 April 1886 in New York City, NY, . Lewis and Bessie were fifth cousins.2 Bessie died on 5 May 1902 in New Haven, CT, at age 38 leaving him a widower at age 39. His wife. His brother Russell died on 16 April 1904 in Boston, MA, at age 39. George Lewis Sargent married second Margaret Berrien Motte, daughter of Ellis Loring Motte and Annie Louise Lobdell, on Tuesday, 24 October 1911 in Concord, MA. Margaret was the widow of his brother Russell who had died 7 years earlier.1 After his marriage Lewis moved with his family into Margaret's house just down the street at 360 Edwards St in New Haven.3 George Lewis Sargent died on 5 February 1944 in New Haven, CT, at age 81, and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven, CT.4
