Joseph Shattuck Phillips was born on 11 March 1820, in Roxbury, NH.¹ He married Deborah Jane Hardy, daughter of Moses Hardy and Elizabeth Sargent, on Tuesday, 3 June 1845 in Walpole, NH.¹ The cause of his death was from wounds received in the Civil War during the battle of Helena, Arkansas.¹ Joseph Shattuck Phillips died on 17 September 1863 in Miller County, Missouri, at age 43.¹ He was buried at the Gott Cemetery in Miller County, Missouri.¹
