George Knower
ID #1171, (c 1611-1674/75)
| Relationship | 9th great-grandfather of Linda Sargent. |
George Knower was born circa 1611, in St Clements, England.1,2 George immigrated in 1631 to Charlestown, MA. He lived on the Mystic side.2 He married Elizabeth Kendall say 1639.3 In 1661 George moved to Malden, MA.2 George Knower lived in New England for nearly half a century, owned land and had a family, yet we know almost nothing about him. Nothing has been found to show that he held office or performed any civic service, or, on the other hand, that he was summoned to court by his neighbors or the town and colony authorities. He does not seem to have been a church member, and was not a freeman. Apparently he tended his crops and cattle and provided for his family, and otherwise avoided participation in the greater society around him.2 He left a will dated 3 December 1674.2 To view the will, please click here:.2
He died on 13 February 1674/75 in Malden, MA.1 Inventory of his estate was taken. It totalled £503 7s. 6d. Housing and land was £385.2
