Oliver Kingsbury 2
Oliver Richmond Kingsbury was born on 15 March 1809, in Worcester, MA.1 His father died when Oliver was only eight months old. He was brought up in Coventry, in the family of his grandfather, and at the age of eighteen, in March or April, 1827, moved to New York City, and lived there the rest of his life.3 He was a businessman. He went to work for the American Tract Society, where his uncle, Harlan Page was employed. [The American Tract Society is a publishing company that published evangelistic Christian literature]3 He became assistant treasurer of the Society in 1834 and Treasurer for many years. He was connected with the Presbyterian Church for many years, successively Ruling Elder in the Sixth Street, Fourteenth Street, and Central Presbyterian Churches.3 He married Susan Patterson on Wednesday, 26 September 1838 in New York City, NY.4 Oliver Richmond Kingsbury was retired in 1887 . A resolution was passed by the Society concerning Mr. Kingsbury
....his long and faithful services....He has been annually elected in this capacity [as Treasurer] for 53 years with no dissenting voice. During this period there passed through the treasure about $17,000,000 and so far as known not one dollar was ever lost in connection with his department. During these 60 years he has been out of the office from illness but once for any length of time, and only for three months. then. Nor has he taken during these threescore years, on an average, one week's vacation perannum. Not a little of the untarnished reputation of the Society is due to his calm judgment, clear view of financial questions, incorruptible integrity, and high Christian character. Taking into view the multiplicity of interests involved, the amount of money handled in unnumbered small sums, the total absence of loss of failure in payment of notes, and the length of unbroken service, it will be difficult to find parallels in the religious or financial institutions of the country.

In connection with this resolution the Rev William R Eastman (a Secretary of the Society) said that it always seemed to him that the Treasurer was dealing with God's silver and gold... ..he was elected Treasurer emeritus.5 He died on 11 December 1889 in New York City, NY, at age 80.4 An obituary was published in the New York Times, in New York City, NY, on 12 December 1889 from the notice: 'Mr Kingsbury was distinguished by a practical bent of mind. He was a man of sound sense, a retiring disposition, a man of orderly ways, and quiet tastes. His office was to him almost as sacred as his church, and there the responsible duties of his earnest life were faithfully performed.6

Dates using 'say' are educated guesses by me.
If I don't know a female last name she will be identified with a 'Mrs' and her husband's name.
MALE or FEMALE means I don't know the first name.
