Peter Mills was born in 1622. About 1650 Peter joined the English refugees who came to Leyden, Holland, for conscience's sake. His father was very angry and disinherited him. At the time he emigrated he was studying for the ministry at Leyden University. Went to Conn . By his request his name was changed. Van der Meulen means the man of the mill. He was given 20 acres of his father-in-law's (Edward Messenger) land to build upon in Greenfield (now Bloomfield) CT. Had a lot in Haddam, but it is unknown whether he lived there or not. Lived in Windsor CT as a tailor. Apparently never finished study of the ministry. As a tailor he is frequently mentioned in MS of Rev Timothy Edwards of East Windsor. Peter lived in Windsor, CT. He was a tailor. He married Dorcas Messenger, daughter of Edward Messenger, in 1666 in Windsor, CT.1 Peter and Dorcas had nine children.1 Peter Mills married Jane Warren on Monday, 10 December 1691. Peter Mills died in 1710.
