     Robert Cooper Townsend was born on 9 April 1869, in New York City, NY.1 25 November 1892 Robert applied for a passport. He intended to return to the US in June 1983. At this point in his life he was age 23, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with blue eyes and light hair. He had a square forehead, a medium nose and mouth, a rounded chin and fair complexion in an oval face.2 He married Louisa Anna Johnson, daughter of William Martin Johnson and Sarah Eliza Day, on Tuesday, 22 May 1894 in St Bartholomew's Church, New York City, NY, Robert and Louisa were step-brother and sister.3 Robert Cooper Townsend died on 1 April 1897 in New York City, NY, at age 27.4,5 The cause of his death was pneumonia.5 The funeral was held at St Barthelomew's Episcopal Church in New York City.5 He was buried at the Youngs Cemetery in Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY.4
