     Howard Rockwell Townsend was born on 23 March 1907, in Boston, MA, at 384 Commonwealth Ave.1 He graduated from St Paul's School in Concord, NH, in 1927. He married Elizabeth C Shields in February 1942.2 Howard Rockwell Townsend married Harriet Barton Scovil on Monday, 3 July 1950 in New Harbor, Maine.3 Howard Rockwell Townsend was employed by Consolidated Controls in Brookfield Center, CT, as a quality control engineer. Howdie and Harriet founded the Peter Piper School in Brookfield Center, CT, a nursery school. After Howdie retired he and Hattie moved to Bennington Vermont in 1979. An active member of the Bennington Museum, Howdie had served as a volunteer tour guide there since coming to Bennington. He was also a member of the Green Mountain Stamp Society.4 He died on 13 April 1985 in Bennington, VT, at age 78. He was buried at the Youngs Memorial Cemetery in Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY.
