Obil Rockwell

     Obil Rockwell was born on 2 December 1776, in Ridgebury, CT. Obil Rockwell was also known as Ohil. He married Betty Rockwell, daughter of Daniel Rockwell and Abigail Smith, on Wednesday, 27 November 1799 Ohil and Betty were married by Rev. Nathan Burton. They were second cousins.¹ Obil Rockwell was an active member of the Ridgebury Congregational Church. Its records show that at the June 1850 meeting, he was elected Moderator, a position involving the smooth oversight of the congregation’s business, including the chairing of meetings. At a special meeting during his term, on 1 February 1851, the church voted to build a new meeting house—the one that still stands today.² Obil Rockwell died on 19 October 1870 in Dover, Deleware, at age 93 The last year of his life was spent in Dover Deleware. He was buried in Ridgebury, CT, After his death his remains were brought back to Ridgebury from Dover and buried there.
