     Thomas Stanley was born on 22 April 1601, in Tenterden, Kent, England.1 He married Bennett Tritton, daughter of Daniel Tritton and Alice Goldhatch, on Saturday, 3 August 1630 in Ashford, Kent, England.4 Thomas immigrated in May 1634 to Lynn, MA, Thomas arrived from England to Boston in May 1634. His brother John died during the voyage and Thomas was appointed guardian for his eldest child John. Thomas was made freeman March 1635. He settled first in Lynn, and was chosen member of the General Court and constable. Thomas was a juryman in 1639, 1643, and constable 1644, 1647-48, 1653. As constable he had to "summon the courts, General and Particular, to their sessions, and the freemen to their elections, to execute the decrees of the courts and the laws, to enforce order in public worship, to arrest and confine offenders, to administer the frequent whippings which were ordered in punishment of petty crimes, inflicting so many lashes 'well laid on', a duty requiring a steady nerve and a strong arm." In June 1636 Thomas moved to Hartford, CT. He died on 31 January 1662/63 in Hadley, MA, at age 61.
