Anne Wines
ID #4116, (s 1626-c 1711)
Anne Wines was born say 1626.1 Father: Barnabas Wines (b Wales) of Southold - Mother: Ann Eddy.2 The following was taken from the notes of Kyle Windes, who cites Paul Swan and Russell Rayl Windes, Jr.:
Barnabas was christened on February 14, 1602 in St. Nicholas Parish, Ipswich, County Suffolk, England. His brother Charles was christened in 1600 and another brother, John, was christened in 1604. Barnabas emigrated to America from England at least by May 6, 1635. The earliest records show him in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, including in Charlestown and on Cambridge Road in Watertown. He is listed as a proprietor of Watertown in 1637 and 1642. On December 20, 1642, he sold six or seven acres of planting land to John Stowers and on February 28, 1643/44, he sold seven acres to William Paine.
Afterwards, Barnabas moved to Southold, Long Island. Russell Rayl Windes, Jr. notes that in 1644-45, Barnabas is listed in records from Long Island as a "Goodman" and "head of the military company." Beginning in 1654 and for the next decade, there at least a dozen recordation of deeds by Barnabas. Russell notes many wills on file at Queens College, City University of New York, indicating that the family owned a lot of land. Russell notes that the family continued to have large land holdings on Long Island until 1777-78, when the family fled the British, who came to arrest them (William Windes, a great-great-grandson of Barnabas, was a general in Washington's Army). Barnabas died between 1676 and 1678 in Southold, Long Island, New York.
