John Sargent was born in December 1639, in Charlestown, MA. He moved in 1656 to Barnstable, MA, with his parents. He married Deborah Hillier, daughter of Hugh Hillier and Mrs Rose (Unknown) Hillier, on Sunday, 19 March 1661/62. Deborah died on 20 April 1669 at age 25 leaving him a widower at age 29. He had three children, the eldest being six years old. In 1669 John moved to Malden, MA.1 He married Mary Bense on Tuesday, 3 September 1669. John Sargent married Lydia Chipman, daughter of John Chipman and Hope Howland, say 1674.2 He was a Private in King Philip's War under Lieutenant Gillam and Major Savage.3 John Sargent died on 9 September 1716 in Malden, MA, at age 76, and was buried at Bell Rock Cemetery in Malden, MA. Lydia Chipman had Mayflower pedigree. Her mother was Hope Howland (1629-1684). Hope was the third child of John Howland (1592-1673) and Elizabeth Tilley (1607-1688). Both John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley arrived in America on the Mayflower. Therefore all eleven of Lydia and John Sargent's childen and their descendants are eligible to join the Mayflower Society.4
