Joseph Schoengut was born on 24 September 1879, in Vienna, Austria.2 Joseph was the older of four brothers born to Jacob and Rosa, both originally from Galicia, Poland. All brothers, and a sister who died as a child were born in Vienna. The next brother was Max, who married Mimi and had no children. Next came Rudolph, the only one that had a son. He was alive in 1938 when Alma left Vienna. Last came Oscar whose wife was from Rumania - they had no children, and he died before 1938.3 He married Philipine Blumenstein, daughter of Carl Blumenstein and Hermine Frankl, say 1911.1,4 Joseph Schoengut died circa 19 July 1939 in Vienna, Austria.5 Joseph committed suicide when arrested by the Nazis in Vienna. He was in a jail in Vienna.1,6
