James Draper was born in 1654, in Roxbury, MA. He was in the military in 1675 as a soldier in King Phillips War. He married Abigail Whiting, daughter of Nathaniel Whiting and Hannah Dwight, on Tuesday, 18 February 1680/81. After his marriage he moved to Dedham where he joined his father-in-law in erecting a fulling mill. James Draper was a carpenter and husbandman. He died on 30 April 1698 in Dedham, MA. Inventory of his estate was taken. Estate valued 177£ 6.6 plus 40 £ interest in 2 mills at Dedham.
