Phebe Fenner1

ID #3545, (1633/34-1691)

Family: William Ward b. 16 Aug 1632, d. 28 Mar 1690

Biography

  • Phebe Fenner was baptized on 15 Jan 1633/34 in Horley, Surrey, England.2,3
  • Phebe immigrated c 1646 with her brothers and sisters.3
  • She married William Ward, son of Thomas Ward and Dorothy Blackwell, on Sunday, 28 Mar 1660 in Middletown, Connecticut.4,1
  • Phebe Fenner died on 1 Sep 1691 in Middletown, Connecticut, at age 57.1
  • She was buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut. The gravestone was legible in 1974, after 300 years: Here lyeth the body of Phebe Ward wife of Ensigne William Wrd aged bout 58 years 1691 who died September 1.5
  • ***Research Conclusion: While marriage records substantiate that William Ward married Phebe, her last name was not given. It is known from probate records that Phebe Fenner's (daughter of Arthur) married name was Ward. The argument is made by Holman in "The Fenner, Browne, and Tully Ancestry" that the man with the last name of Ward that Phebe Fenner married is William Ward. The name Fenner appears in descendants of William and Phebe Ward.......The reason for such confusion who who Phebe Fenner really was.5
