Obituary Notice

An obituary was published

Our beloved Mother, Shirley Thornton Yancey, passed away at her home in Washington Utah on Wednesday evening, June 11, 2014.

Mom was born on April 8, 1921 in Parowan Utah. She was one of three daughters and three sons born to Merrill and Twila Thornton.

Her childhood was spent riding horses, traveling with her family through the western states each spring when her Dad sheared sheep, fishing trips to the Yankee Meadows, and working for her Aunt Neta at Taylor's Cafe.

A year after graduating from high school, she traveled to Seligman Arizona to visit an aunt and along the way had a chance encounter with a certain Greyhound Bus Agent in Boulder City by the name of Veldon E. Yancey. They were married on October 19, 1943, in San Francisco CA. Following Dad's Naval service, they returned to Las Vegas where their two daughters were born. They made their home there for the next thirty three years. In 1978, Dad retired and they built a home in Washington, Utah.

Following Dad's death in 1992, Mom remained in their home and enjoyed spending time traveling with friends and family, working at the Temple, crocheting, quilting and baking hundreds of pies with her friends, The Pie Ladies, every July 4th and 24th.

We will miss her independent nature and her indominatable spirit. She was one stubborn lady and we loved her for it. Our lives were blessed for having her in them.

Services will be held on Monday, June 16th at the Main Street Chapel in Washington UT

A viewing will be held at the Church at 10 AM and the Funeral will begin at 11 AM. Interment will take place in the Washington City Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Heideman Hughes Mortuary 435-674-5000.

An obituary was published

Byron LeRoy Crandall passed away at his home on May 1, 2010.

He was born February 18, 1938 to Merrill and Madge Crandall in American Fork, Utah. As a youth, Byron worked in the carnivals running the rides. Later he serviced in the United States Air Force. When he returned home, he worked in brick work and later at Geneva Steel until he retired. He was always a hard worker.

Byron married Janet Madsen and together they had five children, making their residence in Orem, Utah.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two daughters, Michelle and Marcey. He is survived by his wife Janet, three children, Darrel Joe, Byron DaWayne, and David Lee; one brother, Ray; one sister, Jill; and seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Orem City Cemetery with full military rites provided by VFW District #4.
